ABOUT LUCAS
Lucas Richardson’s art is shaped by a journey that gives his figure paintings a unique resonance. In 2004, a diving accident resulted in a spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic, pausing his art for nearly two years. Before his injury, Richardson’s style centered on intricate, detailed realism; afterward, he adapted his technique, allowing his brush to move more freely in response to his physical limits.
After attending the University of Central Missouri, Richardson settled in Sedalia, where, in 2012, he and his father built a studio in a detached garage at his home. This studio space marked a turning point, allowing Richardson to fully dedicate himself to his art. Over time, Richardson’s process and style have evolved in step with his resilience, and his work continues to reflect a deep appreciation for the human form and the expressive power of adaptation.
